Kurti Neck Design

Sweetheart Neck Design for Kurtis and Suits

A sweetheart neck design has a small dip in the centre and two soft curves on the sides. It is a kurti and suit neckline, and the curves make the neck look longer.

Below you will find sweetheart necks plus close cousins: princess cut, heart, paan, matka, halter and keyhole shapes. Each picture has front and back depth, fabric, trim and a short tailor note.

Stitching Tips for Curved Necks

Curved necks need care. Ask your tailor to:

  • Stay stitch the curve right after cutting.
  • Use a full front lining or a shaped facing, not a strip.
  • Clip the curve every 1 cm and snip right into the centre dip.
  • Add a small press stud inside the centre point if it gapes when you bend.

Piping, gota and cotton lace hold well in washes. Pearls and zari need hand washing. For more finishing ideas, read our neck design stitching guide.

Neckline questions

Is a sweetheart neck kurti design good for daily wear?

Yes, keep it about 6 to 6.5 inches deep and use cotton lace or piping. It is easy to wear under a dupatta. Go deeper and add zari only for functions.

What is the difference between a princess neck design and a sweetheart neck?

A sweetheart has round curves on both sides. A princess cut neck has straighter, angled sides and often joins princess seams. Both have a small centre dip.

What is a paan or leaf neck design?

It is shaped like a betel leaf, wide at the top and narrowing to a soft point. It makes the neck look longer. It works at the front or back of a kurti.

How do I stitch a back matka neck design?

Keep a narrow 3 inch band at the top with buttons or a hook. Below it, cut a round pot shape about 8 to 9 inches deep. Use a full facing so the curve stays smooth.

Is a halter neck design right for a suit?

It suits women with a long neck and narrow shoulders. The front stays high, so it covers well. Add a hook or button at the back for easy wear.

What is a keyhole neck design?

It is a closed neck with a small opening below, often a slit or teardrop. One button or a hook closes the top. It is a smart way to avoid a zip.
