Square Neck Design and Round Neck Ideas
A square neck design gives a kurti a neat, framed look, and a round neck is the easiest daily shape. This page puts both side by side with U, box and rectangle necks.
Each of the 12 pictures comes with depth in inches and a note for your darzi. If you prefer pointed shapes, see our V neck kurti designs or the curved sweetheart necks.

Square, Round or U: Which One Suits You
| Neck | Best for | Front depth |
|---|---|---|
| Round | Long face, long neck | about 5 to 6 in |
| Square | Narrow shoulders, oval face | about 6 to 7 in |
| U | Round face, full bust | about 6 to 7 in |
| Box | Long neck, slim frame | about 4 to 5 in, wide |
| Rectangle | Broad shoulders | about 6 to 7 in, narrow |
Back depth for all of these sits around 4 to 6 inches for daily wear.
Getting Square Corners Right
Mark the square on paper first and fold it in half to check both sides match. Stay-stitch on the line, then clip into each corner right up to the stitching. Turn the facing, push the corner out with a blunt point and press. Fuse the facing on rayon and georgette. Our stitching guide has photos of each step.
Neckline questions
What is the right depth for a front square neck design for suit?
About 6 to 7 inches at the front and 4 to 6 inches at the back. Keep the width around 7 inches so the shoulder strap stays covered.
Is a round neck design for kurti good for a round face?
A high round neck can make a round face look fuller. Go a little deeper, about 6 inches, or choose a U neck instead.
What is the difference between a square shape neck design and a box neck?
A square is about as deep as it is wide. A box neck is wider and shallower. Both have straight sides and sharp corners.
Which trims suit a square neck kurti design?
Straight trims follow the line best: zari border, gota patti, piping or a flat lace. Mitre the corners so the trim lies flat.
Can I wear a U shape neck design with a heavy bust?
Yes. A U neck about 6.5 to 7 inches deep is one of the best shapes for a full bust. Add a hidden press stud so it does not gape.
Which neck goes with a collar or boat style suit?
Square and round necks pair well with straight cuts. For other shapes, see our boat neck kurti designs and collar necks.
