Chudi Neck Design: Simple, Front and Back Churidar Ideas
A good chudi neck design makes a plain cotton suit look stitched with care. In Tamil Nadu and Kerala we say chudi, chudithar or sudithar; in the north it is a churidar or salwar suit. The neck shapes are the same.
Each chudithar neck design below has front and back depth in inches, the fabric, the trim and a short note for your tailor. Show the picture and read the note out at the shop.

Which Neck Design for Chudi Suits Your Face
| Face or body | Try | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Round face | V, square, keyhole | Very high round necks |
| Long face or long neck | Boat, band collar | Very deep V |
| Broad shoulders | V, U, angrakha | Wide boat |
| Large bust | V or U at about 7 in | Tight high necks |
If you are unsure, a round neck at about 6 inches with piping suits almost everyone.
Depth and Finishing Tips for Cotton Chudithar
- Round or U: front about 5 to 6.5 inches, back 4 to 5 inches.
- V neck: front about 6 to 8 inches.
- Party back: back up to 9 inches only with a dori, lace inset or buttons.
Cotton shrinks a little, so wash the fabric before cutting. Use bias piping on curves; straight grain piping pulls and puckers. Cotton lace and piping last many washes. Zari and kasavu borders should be dried in shade. If a deep neck gapes, ask your tailor to take a small dart inside the facing or add a press stud. For a cotton chudi neck design, a 1.5 inch facing is enough.
Neckline questions
What is a churidar easy simple neck design for beginners?
A round or U neck with self piping is the easiest. Keep the front about 6 inches and back about 4 inches. It needs no buttons and suits every face.
What is the difference between chudi, chudithar and sudithar?
They are the same outfit. Chudi, chudidar, chudithar and sudithar are South Indian names for a churidar or salwar suit. Even a sudi neck design means the same neck ideas you see here.
Which is the best neck design for chudi in cotton?
Round, U, square and boat necks all hold their shape in cotton. Pipe the edge or add cotton lace. Our cotton kurti neck design page has more ideas.
What is a new model churidar neck design right now?
Band collars with keyholes, angrakha overlaps and pin tuck yokes are popular this season. Scalloped necks are also back in demand. Show your tailor a clear photo.
How deep should a chudi back neck design be?
For daily wear, keep it about 4 to 5 inches. For functions you can go to 8 or 9 inches with a dori, buttons or a lace inset. A deeper back needs a firm facing.
Which neck design for churidar suits a round face?
A V neck or square neck makes a round face look longer. Keep the depth about 6 to 7 inches. Avoid very high round necks.
